- Montgomery came to Hanover in 1999-2000. He teaches Foundations of the Modern Age (HIS 111), Eurasia (ID 113), The History of China (HIS 266), The History of Japan (HIS 267), Modern China (HIS 362), Traditional China (HIS 364) and Russia's Multi-ethnic Dimension
- His specialty is the Buriat people and, more generally, Russian and Soviet History. His most recent article is titles "A Note on the Buriat Latinizatino Debate in the Mid-1920s."
