Eurasia
Electronic Databases

The following databases are among the most essential for bibliographical searches in Eurasia. After finding citations from these databases, you will want to determine which books and journals are in the Duggan. Please note that the Duggan's list of journals is not presently online. You will have to consult the "Alphabetical Listing of Periodicals" (the "Pink Book") in the Duggan Reference Library. You may, however, first want to see if the journal is included in the JSTOR database.

General Databases

World Cat.
Part of First Search, World Cat is the single largest search engine using the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database. See the Guides to First Search by the Duggan Libraryand OCLC.

JSTOR.
JSTOR is an example of a content database. It provides images of the full texts of back issues of select journals. See the Full List of journals and the Basic Search Engine. With only a select number of journals currently online, JSTOR can hardly substitute for an exhaustive article search. But it does conveniently give you immediate access to the back issues of such important journals as Modern Language Notes, Speculum, The American Historical Review, and The Journal of the History of Ideas.

Select Online Library Catalogues.
This page includes links to Palni (and the Duggan Library), local college and university libraries, and a selection of major research libraries. The list of local libraries is intended to provide Hanover students with a convenient way of finding materials in the area. If there are other local libraries that you would like to see on the list, please let me know. Some of the major research libraries (such as Harvard's Hollis Online Catalog) are quite complete and, though they alone cannot suffice for an exhaustive search, they provide one of the quickest ways of gaining bibliographical information on books.

There is also a CDROM version in the Duggan. For scholarship before 1955, there are printed indexes (organized by year) available in the Duggan Library.
