The Roosevelts finally arrived in Natchez on this Monday evening, with a sense of having returned to civilization at last.  (With 300 residences, it was the first "city" they had seen since Louisville.)

They made arrangements to mix business with pleasure by staying over for the New Year, and Nicholas spoke to the newspapermen about their journey and the planned packet service between Natchez and New Orleans.
