Course Description and Objectives
This course is an introduction to the literature, history, art, philosophy, and theology of the fourteenth century. By analyzing and interpreting primary texts and by experiencing the sights and sounds of Florence and nearby cities, the course seeks to reconstruct the world of Dante and Petrarch.

Grades
Final grades will be based on an evaluation of two 1000-word papers (40% each) and class participation (including occasional presentations on assigned readings and, at the end of the term, a presentation of an original terza rima to the class) (20%).
